Kidney Transplant and its medical treatment in India

Kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, placed near the belly region just below the ribs. Each kidney is placed on either side of the spine. The primary function of each kidney is to filter out the liquid waste and pass it out of the body in the form of urine. Moreover, kidney’s function also includes maintaining the body’s electrolyte balance. Now you must have a basic idea by now as to what role the kidney plays in our body so let’s get a little deeper in the study and see what a kidney failure can do to the body and what is the possible kidney transplant cost in India and around the world.

What is Kidney failure?

Kidney failure also referred to as end-stage renal disease(ESRD) is the final stage where the kidney completely fails to perform any of the regular functions like filtering and passing out the liquid waste from the body. But what causes the kidney to fail? Here are some common factors that cause kidney failure:

Causes of Kidney Failure:

  • Excessive drinking
  • Drug abuse
  • Genetic diseases
  • Urinary problems
  • Diseases like lupus, lgA nephropathy
  • Heart Attack
  • Disturbed blood flow to the kidneys

Diagnosing a kidney failure:

Diagnosing a kidney failure involves a series of tests which includes:

  • Blood Test
  • Urine Test
  • Ultrasound
  • Kidney tissue testing

Symptoms:

From disturbed urinated to going into coma, kidney failure is a deadly disease and needs attention the very moment. Here are some of the common symptoms of kidney failure:

  • Abnormal urination (too less or too much urination)
  • Swelling and  pain in joints or legs or ankles as the body fluid is unable to be removed efficiently
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness and/or fatigue
  • Chest pain
  • Diabetes
  • Coma
  • Vomiting

Kidney Transplant:

Kidney failure is a very serious issue and the only treatment is a kidney transplant. Yes there’s no permanent cure.  Any patient who has lost his/her kidney functioning by 85-90 percent falls under the category of kidney failure.

A kidney transplant involves the replacement of the ineffective kidney with a new one. The new kidney is usually from a deceased donor or a family member who is kind enough to donate his/her one of the kidneys.
However, in some cases of acute kidney failure dialysis can be a way out wherein the body fluids are removed artificially and can even help the kidney recover but in cases of an ESDR, transplant is the only way.

How to promise yourself a healthy kidney?

Prevention is always better than cure and no matter what age we are living in, this holds true in all scenarios. This is also the case with your kidney. Even though medical treatment in India and outside is available for kidney failure, it is still a risky play and one should consider taking proper care of his/her kidney. Here are some ways to promise yourself a healthy kidney:

  • Drink enough water and always stay hydrated
  • Avoid drinking and smoking
  • Exercise regularly
  • Avoid junk food
  • Maintain a healthy diet

Conclusion:

In today’s world, health issues have become common, owing to the unhealthy diet and lifestyle. Yes medical treatments for most of the diseases are available but the treatment can cost an individual enough and not everyone can pay that. Therefore, taking a balanced diet and exercising regularly is advised to keep diseases at bay.
